“The first hour of the morning is the helm of the day”
Just like the helm (wheel) of a ship controls its path through the sea, your morning routine sets the manner for how the rest of your day will turn out.
It is seen that a slow and dull start usually results into an unproductive and lousy day. Some people may even start to feel physically inactive, moody and dejected.
On the other hand, people who follow a healthy morning routine are not only more organized but also a lot more energized. Though there’s no single and ideal morning routine for everyone, you can adopt a few simple habits as a part of your morning ritual which can make changes in the trajectory of your entire day.
Let’s have a look at some healthy morning habits!
Be an Early Riser :
It doesn’t mean that you begin your day at the crack of the dawn, but this doesn’t mean to start your day at 8 a.m. either. Early morning is the time when you are at peace and your mind is at its clearest. The ones who wake up early to perform their tasks are more proactive than the people who utilize evening time to engage in activities. Morning is the best time to set a schedule for the rest of the day. You can write a journal entry, meditate, perform yoga or take a barefoot walk in the garden to connect with nature.
Open the Windows :
Opening the windows of your house and promoting ventilation is important for staying healthy. Allowing the sunlight to enter into your room is the first step toward wakefulness. The sunrays are the best natural source of vitamin D and help you stay in a good mood.
Moreover, they boost the production of serotonin – the happiness-inducing hormone in the body. Thus, opening the windows of your home must be a part of your morning routine. This will help to enhance your mood and prepare you for an active day.
Meditate :
Meditation helps you achieve a state of peace and keeps your mind free from the troubling thoughts nagging at you. This may take a while to master, but once you do, you’ll notice how the changes yourself.
It will help you become less stressed, more focused and decisive with each passing day. Therefore, as you open your eyes and get out of bed, grab a pillow, sit on it cross-legged and meditate for 15 minutes.
Drink Lemon Water :
Drinking water early in the morning helps to improve digestion and regulate the morning bowels. Hence, it is a key to healthy stomach. Combining water with the excellent detoxification properties of lemon help to remove the harmful toxins from the body.
The vitamin C of lemon helps to maintain healthy skin and blood vessels. In addition, it helps to inhibit the excess blood sugar. For all these reasons, drinking a warm glass of lemon water each morning is beneficial.
Stay off the Phone :
Mobile phones have become as important as oxygen to most of us. It is often the last thing we use before we go to sleep and the first one we use when we wake up. Well no more! Wake up early and start your day by not looking at your phone for hours, or right before you leave for work. Instead, involve yourself in other productive activities. Like, read, write, and water your plants. Sit in the balcony with a warm cup of green tea, listen to the birds and collect your thoughts.
Eat a Nutritious Diet :
The energy you get from foods high in fat content like white bread, doughnuts and bagels etc. depletes in a rapid manner.
This makes you drowsy as all the blood from your brain goes down to your stomach to break down these foods. Contradict to it, eating a nutritious breakfast of slow energy-yielding foods, such as whole-grain cereals, fruits, and lean protein, keeps you full of energy and active the whole day.
Regular Exercise :
There are many forms of exercise. Some people may go to the gym each morning, some prefer cycling while some might go for a rigorous run.
All these are terrific ways to get the blood flowing through the body and energize you. Along with this, exercising releases ample of endorphins “the happy hormones” in the body. It also helps to manage your cravings for fatty and sugary foods.
So, add these habits in your everyday routine to stay fit, active and energized the whole day. These healthy morning habits will not only change your body but also change your mind, mood and attitude.
